A worldwide martial arts tournament was nearing its finale. A large purse of prize money which was to be awarded to the fighter who could defeat Heihachi Mishima in the final round provided incentive for warriors from all over the globe.
Financed and sponsored by the giant financial groups, the Mishima Zaibatsu, the first Tekken tournament began with eight fighters, all of whom had emerged victorious in death matches held all over the world, all motivated by different motives, all possessing the skill and power to crumble mountains.
Many battles were fought. But only one lone warrior emerged with the right to challenge Heihachi Mishima for the title of King of the Iron Fists.
This warrior was Kazuya, Heihachi’s cold blooded son. Bearing the scar given to him by Heihachi, he enters into vicious combat with his father on the same field where Heihachi last struck down his own son and dropped him into a trench at age five.
After a grueling battle which raged on for hours, Kazuya emerged victorious by utilizing the skills which had been passed down from generation to generation of the Mishima clan.
As Heihachi’s broken body lay on the ground, Kazuya dropped to his knees and slowly lifted his father into his arms. He walked slowly to the edge of the same cliff where his father had left him to die, stared out over the landscape of all that was now his, and let go of his father’s body. As Heihachi’s body plummeted, Kazuya’s smile gleamed in the sunlight…
One year has passed. The Mishima Zaibatsu under Kazuya’s leadership has become even more powerful with its tendrils reaching to all corners of the world. Soon after his father’s apparent death, Kazuya disappears into the shadows. However, rumors of his immense power, and a dark side, slowly begin to spread throughout the world.
Exactly one year after the end of the first Tekken, a message is relayed from the Mishima Zaibatsu fortress to news agencies all over the world announcing a second tournament with a prize a thousand times that of the first.
So begins the tournament…

Yoshimitsu, who had safely escaped, has entered the tournament to rescue Dr. Boskonovitch, a man to whom he owes his very life, from his captor, Kazuya Mishima.

Jack-2, a military android powered by atomic energy, is the full product version of the Jack series androids with improved A.I. circuitry.
Wanting to test Jack-2’s effectiveness against germ warfare, its superiors flung it into battle. Their tactic failed. Rather than joining the war, Jack-2 rescued a germ infected little girl in a forest on the battlefield, and fled; even now, its location is unknown. Keeping this information from the public, the military did everything in its power to recover Jack-2 and the little girl.
Jack-2 heads to the tournament to save the scientist who designed it from his captor, Kazuya Mishima, the tournament’s sponsor. Upon rescuing Dr. Boskonovitch, Jack-2 plans to ask him to make it human.

Secluding himself in the mountains, Chaolan trained, diligently — rashly — and his talented techniques became less and less precise as he became more and more absorbed in his training, and just when he had given up all hope, a mysterious old man appeared before him, and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. In exchange for his tutelage, Chaolan would have to do something for him.
Determined to face Kazuya once again, Chaolan has decided to take part in the tournament to take Kazuya out — even if it kills him.

Bruce Irving: Invincible fighter.
Bruce, who had lost both his parents and elder brother in his infancy, grew up living a life plagued by hunger and much violence. Disliking the cards fate had dealt him, Bruce yearned to live the good life, and his resolve made him a very strong fighter.
As he was a kickboxing practitioner, Bruce went to Thailand to compete in a Muay Thai Kickboxing tournament, and his performance destroyed the former popular champion’s hopes of ever returning, and as a result, a Muay Thai gambling organization put out a contract on Bruce’s life.
While on board a returning flight home, the contract killer attempted to take Bruce’s life, but an investigator of Hong Kong’s International Police force, who was also on the flight, thwarted his efforts. A fight ensued and when it was over the plane went down.
A unit from Kazuya’s facilities later rescued Bruce, who had been surviving off of human remains for several months.

Baek Doo San, a master of Tae Kwon Do, is the son of a former Tae Kwon Do champion.
During his childhood, his father received a career-ending injury. Devastated, his father turned to alcohol and became a heavy-drinker, which ultimately led to his incarceration.
Plunged into a life of poverty, the young master’s family was forced to deal with hard times, and just when things looked as though they couldn’t get any worse, his mother disappeared, leaving him and his siblings alone. Not too long after that, his father escaped from prison to assist the family, but due to the deprivation of proper nourishment, Baek Doo San mistakenly killed his father, a man he respected above all else.
The frightening experience left him traumatized, driving him crazy every time he saw blood. When the police found him, they took him into their care and raised him.
Years later, he found himself walking the path of late his father, a Tae Kwon Do master and champion. But unfortunately, a person knowing the truth about his father’s death, threatened to go public with the truth of his past if he didn’t destroy his blackmailer’s competition.
The attack on the martial arts school Marshall Law instructs at took place while the school’s instructor was away; a confrontation between Baek Doo San and Marshall Law is inevitable.
